The global shift toward renewable energy is at a critical stage, with more and more solar power projects being commissioned. At the Höltinghauser Industriewerke floating solar park in Germany, Dyneema® partnered with Gleistein and 1PUNKT5 (general contractor SCHULZ Systemtechnik) to enable the installation of over 3,000 solar panels using our recycled-based Dyneema® fiber, generating 2 megawatts of clean energy.

Combining expertise to deliver solar-powered energy

When three innovators join forces, the results can be game changing. Gleistein, 1PUNKT5, and Dyneema® each brought their unique strengths to the fore to bring the Höltinghauser Industriewerke solar power project to life.  

Gleistein’s X-Permanent Flex mooring lines, made with recycled-based Dyneema® fiber, provided durable, high-performance support for the installation of floating solar panels, helping streamline the process while reducing the project’s environmental impact. At the heart of the project, 1PUNKT5’s expertise in deploying 3,407 solar modules ensured optimal energy generation and system performance.  

The use of Dyneema®’s groundbreaking recycled-based fiber – made from mixed plastic household waste – showcased the potential for circular materials to cut the carbon footprint of ambitious clean energy projects without compromising on reliability, durability, or functionality.

Mooring lines unrivaled in performance and sustainability 

To install a large quantity of solar panel modules, the project demanded mooring lines that could meet stringent performance standards while minimizing environmental impact. Traditional materials – like steel or generic HMPE ropes – were too heavy, cumbersome, and ineffective. But recycled-based Dyneema® DM20 fiber provided a clear advantage, enabling mooring lines that were more robust, easier to handle, and left a lighter footprint on the planet. Created using mixed plastic household waste as feedstock, recycled-based Dyneema® fiber reduced the project’s carbon footprint without compromising on the trademark strength and durability of the world’s strongest fiber™.

For our floating solar project in Visbek, we partnered with Gleistein and Dyneema® to deploy sustainable mooring lines. These lightweight ropes not only secure the 3,400 solar modules under harsh wind conditions but also significantly reduce the project’s carbon footprint. By replacing conventional materials, we cut emissions not just from energy production but also from the physical components.

Gaining a competitive edge with X-Permanent Flex lines

Gleistein’s X-Permanent Flex mooring lines offered operators world-class physical attributes that enabled an efficient installation – such as excellent fatigue and creep resistance as well as an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. The innovative design features a protective cover, a load-bearing core, and a sand filter to enhance durability and reduce internal abrasion. For this project, the user-friendly nature of the X-Permanent Flex ropes also resulted in shorter assembly times, improving the overall efficiency of solar panel installation.
